Dubai: Maersk Kanoo UAE, a container logistics integrator, on Wednesday signed an agreement with DP World’s main shopping and logistics center, Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) to set up its first warehousing and distribution facility ( W&D) in the United Arab Emirates.

The agreement was signed by Christopher Cook, Managing Director of Maersk UAE and Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World – UAE Region and Jafza, today at the Maersk Regional Headquarters for West Asia and power station in Dubai. The 10,000 m² will be located at Jafza in Dubai.

Shipping and inbound logistics and distribution have traditionally been shared among multiple stakeholders in the region, resulting in complex logistics requirements. With its new W&D facility, Maersk takes an important step towards building an integrated solution for its customers in which customers will have one-stop access to multiple logistics requirements, not only for goods entering and leaving the UAE, but also to other Middle Eastern countries that use Dubai as a gateway to world trade.

Simplify supply chains

Maersk’s new W&D facility in Dubai will add to the existing global footprint of more than 250 warehouses covering 1.5 million square meters. in 50 countries. The facility will provide a total storage capacity of 80,000 cubic meters and cater for various types of goods in sectors such as petrochemicals, retail and lifestyle, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), technology and the automobile, among others.

The Maersk W&D facility will be powered by a state-of-the-art warehouse management system that implements modern technologies and digital solutions for efficient inventory management, unit-level tracking and traceability and offers tables rich dashboards for better visibility and more in-depth information. For example, with advanced solutions for expiration date management, losses in consumer goods can be reduced to zero, creating a cost competitive advantage for Maersk customers.
